Liquid Measurement

We have been learning about cups, pints, quarts, and gallons.  Take a look at our SUPER HEROES -- our Measurement Men.  The body is a gallon and each arm and leg shows three ways to make a quart.
4 cups =  1 quart
2 pints = 1 quart
quarts = 1 gallon

2-1 BANANA GRAMS

RUNWAY EXCITEMENT

Marble Runways

Students are investigating how marbles roll on runways.  They tested runways that went: down a hill, back up, and then down again/ down and around in a circle/ in a loop-the-loop/ in a spiral.  Students discovered runways needed to start high and end low.  They want to connect all the runway pieces to make it go all around the room.  Do you think we can do it?

Watch the following videos to see the excitement as we test runway ideas!

Students are covering their card with a tessellation.  Tessellating activities build on children's experiences of putting shapes together and help develop the concept of area.

Students are testing twirly birds and discovering that air resistance is a force that creates a spinning motion when gravity pulls the twirly birds down.

Penultimate Student Work

Here's a slide show using SlideRocket to share our newest tech skills.

Penultimate on the iPad

I applied to receive an iPad from the school district and received one just before Christmas break.  WHAT A NICE CHRISTMAS GIFT!  We have been learning how to use the Penultimate app.  Here is a sample of student work.  This story was started by Cody B and I believe another student added content at the end---we are still learning how to create our own notebooks and add to a classroom journal.  Both teacher and students are learning together.  It has been fun to read through the notebooks and see students experimenting with the camera, drawing tools, and their "finger writing".
