Prairie Village

The Cedar County Historical Society is sponsoring  "A Day on the Prairie at the Prairie Village" on Saturday, October 15 from noon to 5 pm.  There will be weaving, pioneer games, traditional foods, candle-making, story-telling and more.  The museum is located north of Tipton on Highway 38 (just past Wal-Mart).  The University of Iowa is a sponsor and Humanities Iowa provided a grant for this special day.

We will be studying pioneer life in second grade, so this would be a wonderful introduction for students!

Red Oak Field Trip

Despite some early morning rain that threatened to cancel our field trip, we ended up with a fantastic fall morning at Red Oak Park.  Leaves fluttered down, insects were discovered, we made our own butterflies, and several chaperones did their best butterfly and moth imitations!  Sarah Subbert, the Cedar County Naturalist, made learning about insects come alive with games, crafts, hikes, and demonstrations.  What a perfect morning!

Fire Safety

We are observing Fire Safety Day on Monday, October 10th.  I've changed the video bar to include Fire Safety videos for children.  We will watch a video at school, but families are welcome to view them from our blog.  KEEP SAFE!

Chrysalis

Our caterpillars have molted for the final time and have entered the chrysalis stage.  We'll keep everyone posted about the emergence of our Painted Lady Butterflies.
