Here's a link for a free educational family event at the State Hygienic Lab in Coralville on September 18. It looks fun and interesting!

The First Day
The 2011-2012 school year has officially begun! We welcomed new students and staff to Tipton Elementary School around the flagpole at 8:30 to start the day. New classroom routines were introduced and the learning commenced. One important routine is proper care of the blue take-home folder. The folder should travel back and forth between school and home every day. Parents should check the folder daily for papers, homework, and important notes. Then the folder is returned to the backpack, brought to school in the morning, and homework, notes, etc. are unloaded at school.
I'm excited to get acquainted with the latest 2-1 students. If the first day is an indication of the year to come, we will have a fantastic year. 2-1 is a respectful group of learners and I have big plans for our learning journey.

New Classroom Books
Our classroom library will be updated with some Fly Guy books. Students may look for the rest of the collection in our classroom library. Ted Arnold's books have received awards and great reviews online. Maybe we can post our own reviews in September.
I began my first venture with online learning this summer. The experience of learning new skills with digital media has been frustrating at times, but full of new learning. One of my learning goals was to include new types of digital images in this blog. Fly Guy was my first try!
